John H. Tillman a prominent pioneer citizen of Colquitt County was born March 5, 1798 in Bulloch County son of Jeremiah Tillman who was buried at Old Hopewell location East of Moultrie and Quitman Highway in 1855.

About 1825 John H. Tillman moved to this location which became Colquitt County in 1856.

John H. Tillman, Donor and benefactor of Hopewell Church and Cemetery, died in 1886 and was buried here at Hopewell, his homeplace lands.

The father of fourteen children, John H. Tillman along with one son, Elijah Tillman, hereby lies in this cemetery along with many of his generation and later generations.
