Brooklynn Bell, a student, says, "He was the perfect definition of a best friend."

Chakomboka Chama left a hole in his friend's hearts the second he left this world Saturday afternoon.

It is a hole his friends are trying to fill by going to his favorite spot in Collegedale called The Greenway.

Bell adds, "This life is going to be horrible without him, and I don't know how I'm going to get through the next day without prayer."

Prayers and hugs are getting them by, but it is clearly not the same in this community.

Bell was on the water Saturday when she heard the news about Chama.

Bell adds, "They said they couldn't find him, I can't even explain in words how I felt."

Park officials tell us the 16-year-old was swimming with a group of friends at Harrison Bay State Park.

According to witnesses, several boys and girls were trying to swim across the bay.

However, one boy got tired and called for help.

That is when we are told Chama swam as fast as he could to try and save him.

Well, witnesses say Chama did because he actually pushed his struggling friend towards the shallow end before going under himself.

Bell adds, "Chama died a hero trying to save one of his friends and Chama's a hero in every single person's life."

Another title to add to Chama's already long list.

School officials at Collegedale Academy say not only was he class president, but on the varsity basketball team, summer softball team, and qymnastics team.

Stephanie Cruz, Chama's Friend, says, "He was very Christ-like and he was a very nice person overall. People should admire that."

Friends tell us Chama spent his short life always doing the simple things like smiling.

Natalia Zapata, Chama's Friend, adds, "He could light up a room as soon as he walked in."

And they say Chama protected others.

They are just sad that on that fateful day, no one was there to protect him.

Bell adds, "I definitely know I'm going to see him one day and I can't wait until that day."

Counselors will be on hand Monday at Collegedale Academy, and there will also be chapel first thing in the morning.

Chama's mother was in Virginia when the accident happened, but she's in the area now.

No word yet on funeral arraignments.
