Musician. Born in in Grundy, Virginia, he began his career in the 1950s on radio show stations in Welch, West Virginia and went on to emerge as one of the finest and most promising country singers of the 1970s. In 1972, he released the record "Borrowed Angel", which was a success on the country charts and he was signed to a record label of the Metromedia. His follow up recording "Lovin' on Back Streets" hit the Top Five and he was signed to Polydor a major label. By 1978, he several top 20 hits to include "I Met a Friend of Yours Today", "Barbara, Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" and "If I Had a Cheating Heart". As his career progressed, he appeared to struggle with much depression and stress. He took his own life at his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee, on his 43rd birthday.
