August 20, 1862 - June 23, 1865

Josiah was born at Limerick, Montgomery county, and moved to this city 25 years ago.

He was a Blacksmith by trade, having retired 25 years ago.

He saw service with Company K, 138th Infantry, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He enlisted August 20, 1862, and served until June 1865, when he received an honorable discharge.

He was an extensive traveler, having visited every state in the Union. He spent considerable time in the South, especially Alabaman and Tennessee.

He was the son of Peter Muhlenberg Emery, who died many years ago at Valley Forge, where he had charge of Washington's Headquarters.
