Daughter of Christian Braun and Elizabeth Kerner, wife of Franz Franz (married October 9, 1878, with marriage certificate number Manhattan #5512) and mother of six children, Maria Franz died young, leaving all her surviving children without a mother. In the 1880 census she was listed as "Mary Franz" and her husband as "Frank Franz". Their only listed child in 1880 was Katie, 8 months old, who evidently died soon afterward. Her other children were Franz/Frank Jr., Carl/Charles, Wilhelm/William, Elizabeth "Lizzie", and Joseph Aloysius, all of whom survived Maria, along with her husband Franz and her mother Marie Braun.
