Helen Gertrude Clingan, 85, formerly of 5441 General Stuart Court, Sharpsburg, Maryland, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the Williamsport Nursing Home in Williamsport, Maryland. Born January 17, 1923 in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Clyde H. and Gertrude L. Bartles Sprankle. She was preceded in death by her husband, rvine L. Clingan on January 3, 2005. She was last employed with Ward Leonard, previously Gilbert Industries. She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church for over fifty years, and the Comrades Sunday School Class. She was a member of the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Leisa M. Thomas and husband Leon, Sr. of Hagerstown, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Michael L. Smith of Hagerstown, Carla Jordan of Foley, AL, Judy Flora of Hagerstown, Leon Thomas Jr of Hagerstown, John Thomas of Chambersburg, PA, Kenneth Thomas and Pamela Swiger both of Keedysville; numerous great and great, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Sprankle, Raymond Sprankle and Paul Sprankle.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00pm at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Dr. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, 7:00-9:00 pm.
