Gramma Irene was born near Kiev. Her father, Medfode Yesenko, moved the family to the United States in 1903, though Her brother, Peter, remained behind in Ukraine to run the family farm. No one seems to have heard from him aftetr WWI and teh Russian Revolution. They got a land grant in North Dakota. She came to Chicago around the First World War and worked with the film industry. She married My grandfather (Julius Orville Martine) in 1921. They had one son, Robert. She was just a wonderful person. I remember her singing "Over There" and going out every week to get well water for her, as she wouldn't touch tap water.

As a odd side note, I found her father Medfode Yesenko on Find A Grave, someone else put him on along with her brothers.
