Tanis L. Winslow, 94, of Main St., Niagara Falls, NY, formerly of Church St., Youngstown, died Thursday, December .12, 2002 in Mt. St. Mary's Long Term Care Facility where she has resided since September 2000. Born in Honduras, Central America, on May 7, 1908 and came to the United States in 1922 where she received her citizenship in 1953. In 1934, she was married to Arthur J. Winslow and moved to Youngstown, NY where she raised her family. Mr. Winslow died March 21, 1988.
In the 1920s she worked as a nanny for the Diplomatic Corp in Washington, DC, and later after moving to Youngstown she was employed at Lewiston Porter Schools for 7 years, in the late 1950's. She was a member of St. Bernard's R.C. Church, Youngstown and also the Church Alter Rosary Society. Tanis enjoyed being with family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, Arthur R. (Dolores) Winslow, Leo L. (Elva) Winslow, both of Youngstown, James N. (Margaret) Winslow of Conneaut, OH and one daughter, Mary Lou (the late Robert F.) Schultz of Lewiston, NY, along with twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge Sts., Lewiston, Monday, December 16, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Services will be Tuesday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM from St. Bernard's R.C. Church, Second & Hinman Sts., Youngstown with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. Burial in St. Bernard's R.C. Cemetery, Youngstown. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of WNY, 1284 French Rd., Depew, NY 14043-4882, or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, 14094.
