Her first marriage was to a musician, whom she met when she attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He was unable to support his wife and infant son Daniel in the Depression, and she moved home to her parents in Rochester and they divorced. She met George Slade Schuster I on a golf course in Rochester. They were married at a hotel in New York City by a justice of the peace in 1937. He adopted her son Daniel from her first marriage. She was a lovely person, smart and witty, and an accomplished pianist. She lived to age 80.
