Funeral services for a veteran Stanberry resident, A.F. (Freeman) Grimsley, were held last Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. The service was conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Matlock, pastor of the Baptist church here. Mr. Grimsley passed away last Tuesday at the King City Manor, where he had been staying for the past three weeks prior to his death. Interment was in the High Ridge cemetery. Mr. Grimsley, who was a retired Stanberry merchant, was the oldest living deacon of the First Baptist Church here. Mr. Grimsley was born in Darlington, Mo., on April 30, 1880, the son of James Franklin and Elizabeth Catherine Athay Grimsley. He was the last surviving son of a family of four children. Mr. Grimsley was married on March 30, 1906 to Ica Dott Haulman, who preceded him in death on August 22, 1969. He is survived by two daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Thelma Bird of Wilcox, Ariz., Mrs. Velda Fern Combs of Stanberry, and Elbert Allen Grimsley of Tripoli, Libya, North Africa. Also surviving him are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He will long be remembered by his many friends and acquaintances. [Unknown Source]
