A daughter of Enos and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Leach, Lucinda Leach married Thomas Runnels on Oct. 15, 1863 in Hendricks County, Indiana. They were the parents of a daughter, Mary, who died in infancy and a son, James Grant Runnels.

Mrs. Lucinda Runnels - Pioneer Woman Peacefully Passes to Her Long Home
"Aunt" Lucinda Runnels died Friday at her home on South Tennessee street (Danville, Indiana). The funeral was Sunday afternoon at the Christian church in charge of Rev. Moorman, of Indianaplis.
She was the daughter of Enos and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Leach, born in Kentucky, Feb. 22, 1826. Her age was 89 years, 6 months and 5 days.
In 1832, Lucinda then being 6 years of age, the family moved from Kentucky to Indiana, the father driving an ox team and the mother, with a baby in her arms, rode horse back and drove a milk cow. The family settled in the green woods, or more properly a wilderness, near what was afterwards known as Montgomery's Chapel, the same being about one mile south of the present town of Lizton. On the 15th of October, 1863, she was married to Thomas N. Runnells, a soldier of the 51st Regiment of Indiana Volunteer Infantry, who was the father of three children by a prior marriage. These children, Darius, Henry and Belle Runnells, are living and they have ever praised their new mother for her faithful care and devotion to them. There was born unto the deceased and her husband, one child, Grant Runnells, who has all his life lived with his mother, and no son was ever more faithful, loving and devoted to his mother than Grant has been to his.
The husband, Thomas N. Runnells, departed this life May 15, 1902. The deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jane Burnett, of Kansas, Mrs. Margaret Keeney, of Rainstown, Ind., and a brother, James Leach, of Lizton, the three step-children heretofore named, and her only child, Grant Runnells.
Mrs. Runnells was one of the charter members of the Christian church at Lizton and her life has been one of Christian acts and deeds, and she had no fears to appear before that Great and Righteous Judge to answer for her life while here on earth.
