Howard G. Dimmitt, 84, formerly of 914 LaPlante St., died Sunday at a Sioux City nursing home where he had been residing. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Nelson-Berger Northside Funeral Home.
The Rev. Orion Anderson, pastor of Riverside Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Riverside Lodge 662 AF&AM will conduct Masonic rites at the cemetery and members of the lodge will be pallbearers.
Mr. Dimmitt was born April 25, 1880, at Ottumwa, Iowa, and was graduated from Iowa State University. He was the oldest living graduate of the class of 1903. A mechanical engineer, he was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad for several years. He married Edith B. Stevens June 15, 1904, at Ottumwa. Mrs. Dimmitt died Dec. 21, 1963, in Sioux City. A Sioux City resident for 31 years, he moved here from Green Bay, Wis. Dr. Dimmitt was a 50-year Mason and a charter member of Riverside Lodge 662 AF&AM.
Survivors include three sons, Robert J. of Dubuque, Iowa, Bruce of Green Bay, Wis., and H. Gordon of Sioux City; one daughter Mrs. Lyndall Zimmerman of Springfield, Ill; two brothers, Clarence of Buena Park Calif., and Ralph of Newport Beach, Calif., one sister, Miss L. Mabel Dimmitt of Huntington Park, Calif.; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
