Charter Member of the Mennonite Brethern Church

David F. Thiessen was born in Jansen, Nebraska, on August 19, 1887 to Jacob and Katherine Thiessen. At the age of 19 he accepted Christ as Saviour during evangelistic meetings and was baptized in the same year and received into the fellowship of the Ebenezer Mennonite Church.
On June 15, 1913 he was united in marriage with Margaret Friesen in Jansen, Nebraska. To this union was born one son. After living in Jansen, Nebraska, for a few years they moved to Paxton, Nebraska. In 1932 they moved to a farm southeast of Burlington, Colorado, and in 1954 established their home in Burlington, where he was residing at the time of his death.
He loved the Lord and served Him with all his heart. He was the pioneer in the organization of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Burlington and served the church faithfully in the office of deacon until his departure. One of his favorite portions of Scripture was Psalm 23. He always had time for the work of the kingdom of God and witnessed for his Lord whenever he had an opportunity. He spent much time in earnest prayer for his family, the church and for lost souls; his intercession will be greatly missed by the family and the church.
He suffered several heart attacks in his last years. Because of an ailing heart condition, he was taken to the Burlington Hospital where after two days, the Lord called him home on November 9, 1962. He reached the age of 75 years.
The following are left behind to await a glorious reunion at the resurrection, his wife, Mrs. Margaret Thiessen; one son, Albert Thiessen of Vona, Colorado; one sister, Katie Friesen of Premont, Texas; two brothers, Jake Thiessen, Dallas, Oregon; and John Thiessen, Aurora, Nebraska; one grandchild, Tom Seaton.
The memorial service was held in the Burlington Mennonite Brethren Church with Frank Unruh, pastor and Rev. G. Warkentin officiating.
