TECUMSEH, Okla. —
Daniel McTee Akin, 14, of Tecumseh, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, in Shawnee.

He was born Aug. 12, 1997, in Summerville, S.C., and lived with his grandparents in Texas during his infancy.
Daniel became a part of the Akin family just before his 3rd birthday and has resided with them in Tecumseh ever since. He is the son of Thomas Fredrick and Jeri Lynn (Beasley) Akin.

While the first thing many may have noticed about Daniel was that he was blind, it was amazing how he enjoyed exploring new places, walking outside, riding his tricycle and horses, or just napping on the porch swing. Despite communication being difficult, he was eager to share that he had two brothers and four sisters, or to talk with everyone he could or call on the phone. He loved music of any kind, be it on his CD player, or sitting on the piano bench while it was being played, or enjoying live violin.

Daniel loved taking his orange bible to church and singing hymns. He loved visiting Grandma, and going to his speech therapy with Miss Donna or occupational therapy with Miss Jennifer or Miss Audry an doing "school" with pictures, letters, and words on his light-box. Whether he completely understood what was going on or not, you could always find Daniel in the middle of it as he loved to be a part of games and jokes, movies and conversations. He was known for always being cheerful, his big smile, and that he absolutely loved to laugh with others. God used this simple joy and love in Daniel to touch the lives of his family and those who knew him.

Daniel experienced and enjoyed the world around him and loved living; all this in spite of being handicapped by any normal measure. With God all things are possible.

He is survived by his parents, Fredrick and Jeri Akin, of the home; two brothers and sister-in-law, Brent and Jenny Akin of Braggs and John Akin of the home; three sisters, Danielle Akin, Jacquelynn Akin, and Jennalee Akin, all of the home; grandparents, David and Kim McTee, Jimmy Akin, Margaret Akin, Jack Beasley, and Frankie Woodley; and numerous extended family and many friends.

In honor of Daniel's love for his speech teacher Miss Donna and speech therapy the family has designated the Daniel McTee Akin Speech Therapy Fund as appropriate for memorials. Donations may be made at Arvest Bank, Attn: Mandy, P.O. Box 1089, Shawnee, OK 74802.

Visitation will begin 9 a.m., Thursday, April 26, and continue through service time. The family will gather to meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 27, at Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee with Pastor Mike Massey officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
