Deacon A.D. "Big Jim" Fuller, 79, went home to be with the Lord at 1pm Saturday, May 22, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Big Jim, as he was affectionately known, was born Oct. 22, 1930, to the union of Isaac Fuller and Willie Mae (Woods) Merriweather.

He attended public schools in Jackson, Tenn., and in the late 1950s, moved to Alton. In 1991, Jim retired from Owens Illinois Glass Works as a general dispatcher. He worked in maintenance and a bus driver for the Alton Public School System.

On March 25, 1978, Mr. Fuller married the former Willie Mae (Thompson) Cannon, who is deceased.
Brother Fuller was baptized in 1978 and ordained a deacon in 1980 at Tabernacle M. B. Church under the leadership of Pastor A.C. Hall. He served his church as an usher, male chorus member, trustee member, president of the brotherhood, and chairman of deacon board. Mr. Fuller was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of the Blue House, the Consistory 64, and Eastern Star Bright Hope Chapter 86.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two daughters, Jeanette and Sophia; and a grandchild.

Visitation will be from 3 until time of a Masonic service at 7pm Thursday, May 27, at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will resume from 9 until time of services at 10am Friday, May 28, at the church. Pastor John W. Buford will officiate. Interment service will be held at the Upper Alton Cemetery. Services entrusted to Harrison Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center of Alton.
