John R. Mayerl Sr., age 72, of 208 N. Cherry St., Whitelaw, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, March 25, 1992, at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the Saur Funeral Home in Kellnersville and 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Whitelaw. Revs. Richard H. Heymen and David Beaudry will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

John was born November 24, 1919 in the town of Franklin, Manitowoc County, a son of the late Frank and Emily Weiss Mayerl. He attended St.Michael’s Grade School. On August 26, 1944 he was married to Marion Hill at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whitelaw. John worked as a crane operator for Bahr Construction Co. from 1952 until his retirement in 1985. He also worked as a volunteer at Holy Family memorial Medical Center for the past six years and in the past assisted his wife in the catering business for over 23 years. He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, its Holy Name Society and was a past president of the St. Michael’s Cemetery Assoc., a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 139 for 39 years, a retired member of the Whitelaw Fire Dept., Whitelaw Sportsmans Club, Reedsville Sportsmans Club, Whitelaw Lions Club, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1957 of Two Rivers and a 62 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters in which he was a past officer.

Survivors include his wife, Marion of Whitelaw, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry (Mary Ann) Mayerl of Whitelaw, Jack (Marilyn) Mayerl of Spanaway, Wash.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy (Don) Stechmesser of Two Rivers, Kay (Randy) Siebold; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe (Marvis) Mayerl of Kaukauna, Wis.; one sister, Marge Spanbauer of Green Bay; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Richard (Lola) Muench of Mesa, Ariz., Shirley Denk of Honolulu, Hawaii and Georgiana Hill of Whitelaw. John was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to dance.

Friends may call at the Saur Funeral Home on Friday from 4-9 p.m. Father Heymen will pray the rosary at 7 p.m. The family suggests that memorials be made to Diagnostic Imaging of Holy Family memorial Medical Center.
