Thomas served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He enlisted in Company D of the 4th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment (Murray’s), which was organized in November 1861 at Livingston, Overton, Tennessee. Thomas conducted raids into Kentucky with General John Hunt Morgan and fought in the Battle of Murfreesboro.
