Byron LeRoy Spaur

Oct. 24, 1930-April 6, 2012

Age: 81

Residence: Johnstown

Byron L. “Bud” Spaur, 81, of Johnstown, Colo., passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at Swedish Medical Center from complications from a brain hemorrhage. “Bud” was the second son born to Bennett Lee Sr. and Marie Rose Binder Spaur on Oct. 24, 1930, south of Johnstown.

“Bud” attended Erkenbeck Country School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1948. Byron married Ruby B. Lebsack on June 28, 1953, in Berthoud, Colo. He served two years in the Army (1953-55). Upon his discharge from Fort Bragg, N.C., he returned to the Johnstown area to farm for the rest of his life. Byron loved to farm and he knew the value of the land. He could raise a successful crop from whatever the season dealt him.

He was a 50-year member of the Berthoud United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the J-M American Legion.

Byron and Ruby were blessed with four children. His proudest moments have come these last years when his two sons, Mark and Steve, joined him in the farming operation. His heart was broken twice with the loss of his daughter, Rebecca, and son, Alan, from Cystic Fibrosis.

He is survived by the love of his life, Ruby; sons, Mark (Robin) and Steven (Gena); grandchildren, Zachary (Melinda), Erica, Sarah, Joseph and Heather, all of Johnstown; a special friend/son, Brad Kennedy, Lincoln, Neb.; brothers, Bennett Jr. (Marilyn), and Gilbert (Caron), all of Johnstown, Glenn of Estes Park; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca; son, Alan; and granddaughter, Rachel.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Allnutt Macy Chapel, 702 13th St., Greeley, Colo. Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at the Johnstown Cemetery, 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2012. Celebration of life service to follow at the United Methodist Church, 9th Street and Lake Avenue, Berthoud, Colo., at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2012, with a reception lunch to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the First United Methodist Church of Berthoud building fund or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of Allnutt, 702 13th St. Greeley, CO 80631.
