William was the second child of six children born to George Ball Sr. and Keziah Ann Hanson. He and his mother were killed by Indians abt. 1785 near Abingdon Washington Co., Virginia at the same time Indians massacred the family of Archibald Scott in Virginia. His father had hidden in a cave during the attack and was later buried in front of the cave after his death.
