A former Long Beach Naval shipyard laborer during World War II.Handyman, janitor. Encouraged education. An outspoken opponent against racism. Died of a long illness April 29,1991. Father of novelist-journalist Sheldon L. McCormick.Survived by two sons, two daughters and three nieces.
