Alma Nicoline Thorson was born 24 Feb 1885 in St. Paul, MN in an area formerly called Gladstone. She was the 5th of 11 children born to Nels Thorson (Nils Tostensen) and Stina (Anne Kirstine Larson) Thorson. Nels and Stina had emigrated from Oslo, Norway in 1881. For a few years prior to her marriage, Alma worked as a seamstress in a factory in St. Paul.
Alma married Herbert Samuel Pillsbury 18 Jun 1913 in St. Paul, MN at Bethany Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Alma and Herbert had two children, Marjory and Wilbur. Alma was later separated from her husband and lived for several years with her daughter Marjory Ferris' family and finally in a nursing home prior to her death in 1968. She was buried at Lakewood Cemetery 29 Jan 1968.
