"Gustavus B. Slack was educated at La Grange College, and after leaving school was for some time a clerk, then a commercial traveler or drummer, and has also followed railroading to some extent." History of Livingston County from The History of Caldwell and Livingston Counties, Missouri, 1886

"Graveside Masonic services for G. Bower Slack, 84, whose death occurred Saturday at his home, 3815 Walnut Street, Kansas City, Mo., will be held at Edgewood Cemetery Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock.


Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Slack, and a daughter, Miss Isabelle Slack, of the home.


He was a son of General William Y. Slack, Chillicothe, Mo., a Confederate lawyer who was killed in the battle of Pea Ridge, Ark., March 20, 1862, in the Civil War. He was a member of the Third Church of Christ, Scientist, and a long-time member of the Masonic lodge in Chillicothe." The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, June 3, 1946
