The Rev. Earl R. Shoup, 69, a Methodist minister and resident of Pullman for the last 24 years, died Thursday morning at 10:20 at Pullman Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to cancer. He entered the hospital about six weeks ago.
He was born in Missouri June 14, 1889, and moved at an early age to Coeur d'Alene where he was employed by the postal department. He came to Pullman in 1935 with his wife and three children.
He was an active member of the Pullman Odd Fellows Lodge, of the Toastmasters Club and had been recognized nationally for his work with the Boy Scouts. He was a founding member of the Ground Observer Corps.
Mr. Shoup was ordained as a Methodist minister in 1940 and has served as pastor in Pullman and neighboring community churches.
He is survived by his wife at their home at 1802 C St., a son, Norman Shoup, and a daughter Marion Shoup, both of Pullman, a son Allan Shoup at Bremerton, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. Beth Volbrecht of Sunburst, Mont., and five grandchildren.
