Born on 4 March 1925, in Powellton, Fayette County, WV, the son of the late Jackson Ray Dolin and Ida M Logan Dolin.

Claude married: Dorothy Miller, 5 June 1948, Cattlesburg, KY. They had 2 children: Daughter: Susan Gail Dolin and Claudia Francis Dolin. Claudia preceded him in death.

Mr. Dolin was a retired teacher from the West Virginia Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of AF&AM Lodge 159, Dunbar. He also was a member of the American Legion.

A veteran of World War II; he served with the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion in the European Theatre of Operations. He was involved in the North African Campaign, jumped into southern France, and finally ended up in the Ardennes Campaign in Belgium. He and his unit participated in the Battle of the Bulge when the Germans broke through and created a bulge in the American line of defense.

Claude Dolin and his fellow troops created havoc with the German Army, holding the line against the enemy at a cost of four-fifths of their unit. His unit, having lost so many men, was absorbed into the 82nd Airborne Division. Claude and what is left of his old unit, more than 50 years later, were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. by the Chief of Staff of the US Army.
