Dominick F. Aiello passed away at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J., on Thursday, April 26, 2012, due to complications from surgery. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service and viewing at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, N.J., on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A masonic service will also be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening. A Blessing will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, N.J. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginsandbonner.com. Mr. Aiello was born in Elizabeth, N.J., but lived for the past 34 years in Mountainside, N.J., where he served on the planning board for over 20 years. He proudly served his country in World War II and received 37 battle stars. He also received commendation medals for the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and the Philippine Liberation and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign along with a special commendation from the commanding officer of the USS Yorktown for his service; he was a member of the USS Yorktown Association until his passing. Mr. Aiello was a graduate of N.J. Institute of Technology and a state-licensed professional engineer and planner who served as director of the physical plant at the University of Medicine and Dentistry and also N.J. Institute of Technology. He also joyously served as masonic grand chaplain for New Jersey, in which capacity he traveled the state aiding those in distress. Son of the late Salvatore and Antoinette Aiello, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Gionatasio Aiello, and a beloved son, Gerald, and daughter-in-law, Lisa. He is also survived by two brothers, Louis and Joseph.
