~
Death claims John Byrne at 3 o’clock Sunday morning at his home on 39 South Dodge Street, following an illness that extended over several months. Until within the past few weeks Mr. Byrne had been able to be about although he had not been able to attend to his duties since last December.

The deceased was born in this city, January 27, 1860, and Dubuque has been his home for fifty years.

He was educated in St. Raphael’s School and after completing his education engaged in stone mason work. For the past twenty-five years he had been a member of the firm of Byrne and Saul contracting stone masons.

On April 9, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth McClain who survives him with the following children: Robert, Thomas, John, Bessie, Thelma and Rita; one brother, Patrick, residing in Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. Joseph Noonan of this city, who scurvies his death.

Mr. Byrne was a member of the St. Columbkilles’s Court, Catholic Order of Forester’s, and Modern Woodsman of America. He was a life long member of the Catholic Church, and his life was lived according to his religious beliefs. He was a just and honorable citizen, who in his business as well as his private life won the respect and confidence of all with whom he was associated.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday morning at nine o’clock from the family residence to St. Columbkille’s Church, and internment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery
