He was born July 14, 1922 in Amalga, Utah, a son of Franklin A. and Laura McFarland Purrington. He married Francel Harrop in March of 1943 in Ogden. They were later divorced. He married Elease Kern on October 18, 1963 in Elko, Nev. He had lived in Amalga, Utah for five years; Ogden, Utah for 52 years; and in Sun City, Arizona for 13 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Purrington had worked for Hill Air Force Base. He was a member of the Briarwood Country Club.
Surviving are his wife of Sun City, Ariz.; one son and one daughter, Ricky L. Purrington and Lynda Karras, both of Roy, Utah; one stepson and one stepdaughter, Ronald K. Strong, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Geri Beck, Sacramento, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Dean Purrington, Sun City, Ariz.; Max Purrington, Ogden, Utah; Thelma Donoviel, Roy; Barbara Stoddard, Ogden.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with President Nolan E. Karras officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
