OBITUARY

Vance D. Davis, 73, of Onaga, Kan., died Jan. 9, 2002 at the Golden Acres Nursing Center in Onaga.

He was born July 21, 1928 at McDonald, Kan., the son of Sewell and Ella Buck Davis.

He was an auto mechanic, welder and electrician. He had worked in the John McCain Garage and Fred's Tractor Service, both in McDonald, before he enlisted in the Navy. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1950 to 1958, where he was a Chief Petty Officer and Recruiting Officer in Richmond. While in the Navy, he attended Machinery Repairman School. After his discharge from the Navy, he owned and operated a Texaco service station in Richmond.

After moving from Richmond, he lived in Colorado and Mcdonald and had moved to Onaga about a year ago.

Survivors include son Kenneth D. of Merritt Island, Fla.; daughter Cheryl Ann Davis of Richmond, Va.; brother L. Vernon Davis of Kanopolis, Kan.; sister Vonda Doak of Lincoln, Neb.; half sisters, Caroline Lawson of Bartley, Neb., and Ruth Kidwell of Hastings, Neb, and one grandson.

Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Grace Cemetery in McDonald.

Tessendorf-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga is in charge of arrangements.
