---------------------------

Eighty Years Old Resident of Madison County Passes Away in Edwardsville.
---------------------------
Mrs. Margaret Ann Redman, one of the oldest residents of Edwardsville, who died Tuesday, was buried today. She was 84 years old and was regarded as one of the most remarkable women in the county. When the Civil War broke out Mrs. Redman was intensely interested and sent her husband and five stalwart sons to the army. All of them were wounded, but all returned home. Subsequently, her husband and two sons died of their wounds. Samuel T. Hughes, one of the sons, rose to the post of colonel of the famous Ninth Illinois, which, for a portion of the war, was under the command of Colonel Jesse J. Philips, later Justice of the Supreme court of Illinois. Mrs. Redman was born at Redman Crossing in 1822. She was twice married, her first husband being Asa Hughes and her second Josiah W. Redman. The surviving children are Charles Redman, of Laplace, Ill.; Henry W. Redman, of Pontiac, Ill.; Miss Susie Redman, of Edwardsville, and George F. Redman of Alton. The funeral was held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence of Mrs. Sarah M. Hughes, on High street, Edwardsville, and the body was sent to Wanda for burial.
