STATESVILLE Mrs. Macie Sigmon Martin , 91, of Statesville Manor on Peachtree, died Saturday, April 7th. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in both Lincoln County and Iredell County Schools, and was born June 27, 1909 in Lincoln County, daughter of the late Pinkney Lee and Mary Ida Cloninger Sigmon. She was educated in the Lincoln County Schools and Appalachian Teachers College and a member of Little Joe's Presbyterian Church. She was married to Edwin Yates Martin who preceded her in death on January 1, 1980. Also preceding her in death were five brothers and one sister.

She is survived by a son, Harry Martin and wife, Debbie of South Boston, VA, two grandchildren, Hunter Martin of Frankfort, KY and Kevin Martin of South Boston, VA, a brother, Blair Sigmon of Concord, 13 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren.

In 1942, she became Mother to six small children to whom she was loving known as Mother Macie. Four stepchildren are surviving, Jennie Johnston of Mooresville, Franklin Martin of King, Doris Gettys of Spartanburg, SC & Melvin Martin of Holden Beach. She was preceded in death by two step-sons, Edwin Hugh Martin and Grady Allen Martin.

Services are scheduled for Monday, April 9th at 4:00 p.m. in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 5:30 p.m. at Denver United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to: Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
