George "Speed" Bodnar was born in Pueblo, Colorado to Andrew Bodnar, Sr. and Anna Kolesarek. He moved to Los Angeles, California in the mid1930s.

He was working as a truck driver when he met Ardith Ilene Nauman in 1939. They married April 13, 1940 in Yuma, Arizona. He worked for Pacific Crane & Rigging as a crane operator for many years.

They lived in Los Angeles until 1945 when they bought a home in Lynwood. There they raised their 6 children, Judith English, Patricia, Beth Gutierrez, George, Jr., Phillip and Richard.
