Anna (Anne) Elizabeth Norby was born 27 Dec 1893 in Grand Forks, ND. On 23 May 1909, Anna was confirmed by her father when he was pastor at United Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church (Grace Lutheran) in Winchester, WI. She went to school at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and sang in their choir in 1919 and 1920. She graduated from there in 1921. While a student at St. Olaf, Anna was assigned a paper entitled: "The Story Of Myself". Anna took this assignment to heart and wrote about her physical, mental, moral and social traits in relation to her heritage. She was so honest, as a matter of fact, that her older sister, Constance, who typed the paper, wrote: "I modified her ‘revelations' of her own inner life and some of her comments on family affairs. The professor stipulated that they must tell the absolute truth, and, of course, Anne tried to be absolutely truthful". She described herself as average height and weight (5 feet, 7 inches, 119 pounds), rather frail with a tendency to hysteria, and of average intelligence. "As for me, I believed in God as a thoughtful, kind father. I truly believed that he would answer our prayers, if they were earnest and sincere. I realized the evil in the world, and often thought of my own sins. My conscience sometimes troubled me when I knew I had done wrong." The entire paper is a touching account of a young woman examining herself, as well as describing herself as she feels others might see her.

Anna was a member of the Minnehaha Lutheran Church and taught grade school in Minneapolis until 1950 and was a high school teacher in Red Wing, MN until 1947 and continued to live there until 1959. Anna was married at sixty-six, 12 Nov 1959, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ascension in Milwaukee, WI, to Ernest E. Petersen. (He was the son of Hans P. and Sophia Rasmussen Petersen. Ernest was born 2 Mar 1892.) She was living at that time in Red Wing, retired, and moved to Racine, WI, where Ernie, a widower, worked as a carpenter/builder. Anna suffered from high blood pressure and died 12 Sep 1978 of a stroke while living in the Lincoln Lutheran Home in Racine, Racine Co., WI and was buried 14 Sep 1978 in Graceland Cemetery.
