John Craig Adams was the son of William Green Adams and Elvira Mary Craig. His obituary says he served in the Lower House of the State Legislature and later was a magistrate and member of the third district County Court for many years. He twice served as Mayor of Humboldt, Tennessee.

John Adams served as a Confederate soldier in the Civil War. He was a member of Company B, 3rd Missouri Calvary enlisting on February 28, 1862 in Dunklin County, Missouri. He served until the end of the war when he was paroled at Shrevesport, Louisania.
