Nathan and his family business were a fixture in Metro Detroit for decades. Mercury Paint, co-founded by Nathan's father in 1919, grew to be a large paint manufacturer and distributor. And Nathan was a dapper businessman remembered for elegant style and a fantastic sense of humor. And his son, Charles, worked with his father in the family business before they sold the franchise to Sherwin Williams in 1996. Always even tempered, he earned the nickname of the Great Compromiser in his business dealings. And he was known for his wit — he used to do the crossword puzzle in ink. Cause of death: Heart Disease. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sally; two sons, Charles and Lawrence; two daughters, Marcia (Roger) Fenton and Reva (Robert) Kahn; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
