August was the son of Anthony Heicken and Mary Ann Buchheit. About 1945 he married Estelle Hillenbrand and they had two children, Raymond and James. At the time, he was a retired cutter operator for Phillip Morris USA, where he worked for 35 years. Gus died at the age of 79.

August "Gus" Heicken, 79, died Wednesday [June 1, 1994] at his home. He was a retired cutter operator for Philip Morris USA, where he worked more than 35 years. Survivors: his wife, the former Estelle Hillenbrand; two sons, Raymond & James Heicken; a sister, Helen Kleier of Orlando, FL; and three grandchildren. Funeral: noon Saturday, St. Therese Catholic Church, 1010 Schiller Ave. burial: Calvary Cemetery. Visitation: Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home, 1201 E. Oak St., 2-9 p.m. Friday. Memorial gifts: Mass of the Air.
