"GREAT DANE," COLORFUL AND POPULAR SPOTS EDITOR
A journalistic entomologist is a title which perhaps describes Wilson 'Great Dane' Dawson. About to graduate, and intending to secure a position as an entomologist with the Government, Wilson can look back on a varied school life.
Coming to Maryland from Tech High in Washington, where he was a lively cheerleader and a contributor to Tech Life, student publication, Wilson plunged deeply into the study of bugs.
By his sophomore year, the "Great Dane" joined the Entomology Club, and The Diamondback sports pages were first brightened by Wilson's stories in the same year.
He worked so fast and furiously that by his junior year he was pledged to P1 Delta Epsilon, national honorary fraternity. He was then presented with the fraternity's annual award for outstanding work in journalism.
But the little man was faithful to his insect study, and in spite of his heavy Diamondback assignments, was made editor of The Antennae, a monthly entomology magazine.
This year a big job has been holding Wilson's attention--he was appointed sports editor of The Diamondback. He is also president of the Peace Club, (the original).
So he is a familiar figure around The Diamondback office
... With his pipe in one corner of his mouth, and his hat set back on his blonde head, blue-eyes 'Great Dane' sits quietly at his typewriter--which he constantly makes hum to the tune of the University sports.
(My notes); The Diamondback is the University of Maryland in College Park, Prince George's County, Maryland.
