Mabel Jo Buttrey
September 15, 1921 ~ May 24, 2017 (age 95) Mabel Jo Buttrey, daughter of the late Letcher and Lillie Collins, widow of James W. (Jimmy)
Buttrey entered into the reward she has worked for for so long. She was a devout Christian and lived a life she could die by. Ma Buttrey, as she was lovingly known, was the mother of Freida Ratliff, wife of Ronnie , James Letcher Buttrey, husband of Linda, and Estella Jo, widow of Gary Neal Adams.
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, J.C. Jones, Mike Jones, J.J. Buttrey, Larry Neal Adams, Trevor Buttrey, Chad Ratliff, Crystal Campbell and Shawn Campbell.
Ma Buttrey was preceded in death by a much loved grandson, Carl Jason Adams.
She was active in her community, on the board of MCHC for several years, involved in the Domestic Violence Program, a founding member of the Isom Day Commitee, a founding member of the Isom Presbyterian Church, late in life she took membership with the Little Colly Baptist Church. She worked for two years with the Letcher Co. Health Department and for 35 years as a Social Worker for the Cabinet for Human Resources. She loved to stay active, in other words, she loved to be involved and she loved to galavant.
Ma Buttrey will be laid to rest at the Letcher Collins Cemetary on Little Colly on a farm where she was born and raised. She will be missed, she spent the last four years of her life at Letcher Manor Nursing Home...She passed from this life at Whitesburg ARH May 24, 2017.
