3 of the five sons of J. Edward and Anne Geraldine Boss Creary were stricken with polio and were in the care of Syracuse City Hospital while she was in Syracuse Memorial Hospital dying of cancer.

2 sons were under observation and did not contract the polio virus. The 2 that were in the hospital with their brother Jerry, survived.

Jerry's funeral Mass was held at the Church of St. Anthony of Padua in Syracuse, NY and his burial took place in St. Michael's Cemetery in Penn Yan.

She died just 2 months after him on 17 November 1952
