Abraham was the fifth child of Nicholas and Susan (Worcester) Kip. He married Ann Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of Francis Wayland and Eliza Ann (Nichols) Douglas, on 2 April 1901. They lived in Highland Park where they had one daughter, Margaret in 1903.
He was educated in the Passaic Public School. In 1878, when thirteen, he entered a business office in New York City and continued in business pursuits until 1883. In the fall of 1883 he entered the New Church Theological School in Boston, Mass. He graduated in 1886 as a minister of the Swedenborgian Church. On account of ill health he left the ministry the next year and returned to mercantile life where he remained until 1924. He was the author of several books icluding The Mind and the Body, Psychology of the Nations, Animal and Plant Correspondences, The Prophecies of Daniel, Phases of the Church Universal and The Seven Types of Humanity.
