Telegrams were received in this city Sunday night of the death at Los Angeles, Cal., of Capt. John P. Bentley, aged 73 years, a well-known railroad conductor and a lifetime resident of New Albany. His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eccleston, where he had been spending the winter. Heart trouble was the cause. Capt. Bentley was for many years a conductor in the employ of the Monon railroad and later entered the service of the Vandalia line. He was employed by the Southern railway five years ago, when he resigned to enter the employ of the Charles H. Connor Roofing Company, of Louisville. Two years ago ill health forced him to give up his position. Capt. Bentley was an elder in the Second Presbyterian church. He is survived by two daughters and a sister. - Public Press 11 Apr 1911
