VALLEY - Mrs. Velma Horne, 81, of Valley died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at her residence.

Funeral services are planned for Saturday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Revs. Stanley Duke and Tim Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Horne is survived by her daughter, Lannie (Roland) Sledge; her son, Bubba (Delaine) Horne; grandchildren, Leah and Emily Sledge and Cierra and Hannah Horne; two sisters-in-law, Virgie Horne and Margie Horne; and several nieces, nephews, greatnieces and great-nephews.

Mrs. Horne was born Nov. 5, 1928 in Anderson County, S. C. She was an active member of the Fairview Baptist Church for more than 40 years, where she served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher, Discipleship Training leader, GA leader, custodian and in several other capacities. Mrs. Horne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lewis E. Horne Sr.

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
