Funeral services for Abe Attrep, age 79, of Ruston will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston with Father Bill Easterling officiating the service. Interment immediately following at Pines Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be prior to the church service at 9:30 A.M. at the church.
Abraham (Abe) M. Attrep passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 in Homer, LA following a series of complications from a fall. He was born on February 12, 1933 in Alexandria, LA. He received his B.A. degree (summa cum laude) from Louisiana College, M.A. from Tulane University and Ph.D. in history from the University of Georgia. He taught at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and completed a distinguish teaching career of over 40 years at Louisiana Tech University. Abe was preceded in death by his parents Moses and Nazha Attrep, sisters Mary Doumitt and Denia Armand, and brother John Attrep.
He is survived by sisters Sophie Nassif of Alexandria, LA and Georgia Karam of Kinder, LA; brother Moses Attrep, Jr.; sister-in-laws Katherine Attrep of Los Alamos, NM and Mary Attrep of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and in particular his niece and husband, Becky and David Lowe of Homer, LA who was his caretaker in his latter days.
Dr. Attrep will be remembered for his published scholarship and insight of early Church history, his enlightening lectures as well as his generosity, patience to his students and colleagues. He was an avid fan and supporter of the Louisiana Tech University basketball teams and football team.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, the Lincoln parish Library or another organization you may choose.
