J. C. Harman has a CSA pension application on line under Meriwether county in the Georgia Archives. He says he enlisted in Griffin, Ga in July 1864 and served with Company A of the 2nd Ga Battalion. After about a month, he contracted typhoid pneumonia. He was sent home to recover and then placed in the 2nd GA Reserves unit.. But later he was captured in Columbus, GA and held until the end of the war. His pension was not approved as he had not served the required 6 months active duty according to the pension law. See GA Pension 184925-01142 in the GA Archives to read his own words and those of his witnesses and doctors.
But he was attempting to fight, therefore a veteran!
