Charles Buxton II
ALTON - Charles H. Buxton II, 67, died at 5:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 1993, at home. His banking career included 14 years employment at Mercantile Bank, eight years at American Bank, two years at Illinois State Bank and 10 years at First National Bank of Alton. He taught at the American Banking Institute at the University of Wisconsin and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Illinois Banking Association, American Banking Association, and Jaycees and Hayner Public Library Board. He was a U.S. Navy Submarine Corps World War II veteran.
Born Sept. 9, 1925, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Paul H. and Ruth (Cummings) Buxton.
He married the former Evelyn Janak in 1953, in Crystal Lake, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles Buxton III of Alton and Michael Paul Buxton of St. Louis; two daughters, Rebecca Cummings Buxton of Anchorage,
Alaska, and Cynthia Ann Buxton of St. Charles, Mo.
A sister, Cecil Findley, preceded him in death.
A memorial service is at 1 p.m. on Feb. 3 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alton with the Rev. David Heneghan officiating.
Burial is in Alton City Cemetery, Memorials may be made to Hayner Public Library of Alton or the church, where he was a member.
Elias-Smith Funeral Home of Alton is in charge of arrangements.
