Virginia D. (Stafford) Barnett, age 91 passed away Sunday evening, May 6, 2012 at the St. Augustine's Home for the Aged in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Brown County.

Virginia was born March 7, 1921 in Scottsville, KY to the late Oscar Leondith and Myrtle Bell (Cline)Stafford. She married William Sherman Barnett on October 19, 1941 in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1997, after 56 devoted years.

Virginia & her husband, along side three other couples, helped charter and form the New Life Community Church in Nashville in December of 1984, which met at the Season's Conference Center. In 1987, they were both very instrumental in the construction of the New Life Community Church building. Virginia had previously attended Burge Terrace Church in Indianapolis. During the 1940's Virginia was an assembly worker for PR Mallory in Indianapolis and also worked for a short time at Fox Optical in Indianapolis during the 1960's. She loved square dancing, playing the piano, oil & chalk paintings and gardening. Virginia was also an avid Bingo player.

Virginia will be missed by her loving children: Shermana Carole Ablett of Indianapolis & William Doug (wife, Sandy) Barnett of Nashville. She will be remembered by her three grandchildren: Nicole E. Kremp & Shawn Michael Finkbiner both of Indianapolis and Crystal (husband, Abe) McGrayel of Nashville; three great grandchildren: Ashley Nicole Kremp of Indianapolis, Rosalyn & Elisa McGrayel both of Nashville; one sister: Bonnie Gearhart of Greenfield.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Evelyn Sexton, Creola Gent & VBK Centers; two brothers: Leondith Stafford, Jr. & Dean Stafford.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Tuesday at the St. Augustine's Home for the Aged, 2345 W. 86th St. Indianapolis, with visitation from 3 pm until service time.

The Rev. Darrell Stout will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 am Thursday at the New Life Community Church, 1450 St. Rd. 135 N. in Nashville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center located at179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville.
