William J. Munterfering was born June 25, 1944 at Parkston to Irvin and Leona (Koster) Muntefering.
He attended Dimock Catholic School and graduated from Parkston High School in 1964.
On March 6, 1963 he married Dorothy Hohn at Tripp, SD. They resided in Dimock until 1965 when they moved to rural Ethan where he was involved in farming his entire life. While farming he worked for Weber Construction for several years, was an assistant manager for Cashway Lumber Company in Sioux Falls and worked at Dakota Manufacturing Company in Mitchell. In 1993 he founded Bill's Rock and Gravel Trucking Company, which he operated up to the time of his death. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, three children: Darla Muntefering, Mitchell; Doug Muntefering, Ethan; Debra Jackson and special friend Dave Ogden, Mitchell; his mother, Leona, Mitchell; three sisters: Darlene (Dick) Branaugh, Mission Hill; Cheryl (Tom) Stirling, Ethan; Charlene (Doug) Moon, Martel, NE: four grandchildren: Jenny Jackson, Andy Jackson, Josh and Joey Muntefering and one great-granddaughter, Jadyn Muntefering.
He was preceded in death by his father, one son David, one brother Charles and his grandparents.
