MARION LEE METCALF

Marion Lee Metcalf, 80, a retired farmer of Route 2 Mars Hill, N.C. died Monday, January 12, 1953 at his home after a brief illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Madison County, N.C. and the son of the late James "Jim" Metcalf and Margaret Susan Chambers Metcalf. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Theodisia Treadaway Metcalf, who died November 21, 1949.

He was survived by three sons, Donald Metcalf, Virgil Metcalf and Wayne Metcalf of Route 2 Mars Hill, N.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Charlie Anderson, Miss Dorothy Metcalf and Mrs. Mack Allen of Mars Hill, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 1953 in Metcalf Creek Baptist Church of Madison County, N.C. The Revs. E.P. Blevins and T.E. Woody officiated. Pallbearers were Venable Church, Willis Church, Alvin Allen, Robert Metcalf, Harold Metcalf and Gurney McMahan. His granddaughters were flower bearers. Holcombe Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Burial was in Metcalf Cemetery.
