Rites held for David Coons

David Coons, age 76, of rural Coulee, died Thursday, December 22, 1988, at St. Joseph's hospital of Minot. His funeral was held Tuesday, December 27, at 3:00 p.m. at the Kenmare United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery of Kenmare.

Officiating for the service was Rev. Lawrence Gill. Organist was Mrs. Wanda Rodin, with special music provided by Rev. Lawrence and Stephanie Gill. Active casketbearers included Leon Goettle, Jim Goettle, Randy Whillock, Leonard Lehman, Jim Lindquist and Robert Wirtz.

He was born on May 27, 1912 in Crowfoot Twp., Mountrail County, a son of Bill and Elsie (Pemble) Coons. He attended rural schools for his education and then lived and farmed while ranching his entire life in Crowfoot Twp., near Coulee. He was married to June Harris at Minot in 1948. He served many years on the Township Board and also the
Coulee Elevator Board. He also worked with the Social Service Board, the Farmers Home Administration and the Water Resource Board, all of Mountrail County.

He is survived by his wife of Donnybrook; son, Terry of Donnybrook; brother, Milton of Hamilton, MT; half-brothers, Bill of Donnybrook, and; Don of Kodiak, AK; and sisters, Blanche Barnes of Stevenson, WA, Florence Torbenson of Minot; also several nieces and nephews.

KENMARE - David Coons, 76, rural Coulee, died Thursday in a Minot hospital. His funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in United Methodist Church, Kenmare, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.

He was born May 27, 1912, to Bill and Elsie Coons in Crowfoot Township, Mountrail County, where he attended rural schools and farmed and ranched all his life. He married June Harris in 1948 in Minot.

For many years he served on the township, Coulee Elevator, county Farmers Home Administration and Water Resource boards and worked with the county Social Service Board.

Survivors: wife; son, Terry, Donnybrook; sisters, Blanche Barnes, Stevenson, Wash., Florence Torbenson, Minot; Milton, Hamilton, Mont.; half brothers, Bill Coons, Donnybrook, and Don Coons, Kodiak, Alaska.
Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon in Thompson - Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.

David or Dave, as he is better known, was born May 27, 1912, to Bill and Elsie Coons in Crowfoot Township, Mountrail County. Dave has lived all his life in Crowfoot Township except for working in Montana for a time during the "dirty 30s" and in the shipyards in Portland, OR. during World War II.

Dave started farming in 1937. He married June Harris at Minot in 1948. Dave purchased the farm on which he resides in 1949 and built a new house in 1966. He has one son, Terry, who is an active partner in the farming operation.

Dave is active in community and county affairs: secretary of the Coulee Farmers Elevator for 21 years, resigning in 1973; chairman for the Water Management District; served with the Farmers Home Administration; chairman of the Social Service Board and the Crowfoot Township Board.

Dave, June and Terry were Soil Conservation Award Winners in 1973.

Hunting, fishing and trapping have been a part of his life, enjoying it all since a very young man.
