Nancy Snow Selvage, wife of Michael K. Selvage, was the daughter John Johnson Snow and Elizabeth (Burrus) Snow. John Johnson Snow was the son of Frost And Snow and Elizabeth (Johnson) Snow from Virginia.
Nancy Snow's parents lived in Alabama from 1815-21 and her father appeared on the tax lists of Madison County 1815-16.

The 1850 census indicates she was born in N.C. circa 1811 while the 1860 census indicates she was born in Virginia circa 1814. She lived at New Hope, Madison County, Alabama.
Several researchers list her name as Nancy Jane Snow Selvage.
Some believe she was buried at New Hope. "I show her as buried at New Hope Cemetery." (Bruce Selvage.)

She was a member of Prospect Baptist Church in Roane County (now Loudon Co.), Tennessee, co-founded by her father John Snow (1826). Her husband joined this church January 1832.

1829

1835: Michael K. and Nancy Snow Selvage moved from Roane Co., TN to Madison Co., Alabama (Marshall County line) in December 1835 (received dismissal from church to go).
Nancy Snow's parents had lived in Alabama from 1815-21, her father shown on the tax lists of Madison County 1815-16, before returning to Tennessee.

HISTORY OF JACKSON COUNTY, ALABAMA (1935), by John Robert Kennamer: In 1821 Decatur County was created from Jackson Co. and the part of Madison Co. east of Flint River. Decatur County...included...the whole of the present Marshall County's territory, as well as a great part of DeKalb, Etowah and Blount Counties.
A commission was appointed to select a seat of Justice, which consisted of the following persons: Robert MCCAMEY, James G. HOLMES, John KENNAMER, John SNOW, Alex W. DULANEY, David BOSHART, Aaron RICE, William LEGG, and Mr. BARNETT (who lived near the mouth of the Paint Rock River).
After this, John Snow and family returned to Roane County, Tennessee, where Nancy Snow married Michael K. Selvage in 1829.

1840
The 1840 Roane Co., TN census shows #574 Hiram Lain (Lane)(who married Sarah Snow) next door to 573 Stephen West (the bondsman) and 576 Richard Snow, also near 570 John Snow and 566 William Snow.

In 1846 Michael Selvage went to Texas to buy land for speculation where he wound up fighting in the War with Mexico and never returned to Alabama to live permanently.

In 1860, Nancy Snow Selvage was living between New Hope and Owens Crossroads with her daughter Nancy and husband James C. Cooper near Thomas Harless. James Cooper died during the Civil War and his widow afterwards married John Douglas Hill and moved to Grant, Marshall County, where they are buried. Nancy Snow Selvage may be buried at New Hope Cemetery where their neighbor Thomas Harless was buried, but could be buried at Owens Crossroads, possibly near son-in-law James C. Cooper if he died at home or if his body was sent home.

This reference lists her as Nancy Jane Snow, daughter of John Snow and wife of Michael K. Selvidge.

A family tree online shows a Nancy A. Snow Selvidge who supposedly died in 1877 in Lebanon, Cooper Co., Missouri. This has been copied by several researchers. This Nancy A. Snow Selvidge is identified as a daughter of James F. Snow and Sarah Thompson; granddaughter of Moses Snow who was a first cousin of Frost Snow, making the two Nancy Snows third cousins to one another. The citation is a book entitled “Some Descendants of James F. Snow, A settler of Crawford Co., Arkansas” (Arkoma, Okla. 2006) by Daniel E. Page. However, the book cited does NOT show James F. Snow and Sarah Thompson having any daughter Nancy A. Snow, and certainly not one marrying Michael K. Selvage.
