R. K. BUFORD, SURGEON, DIES

Dr. Robert King Buford, 58, of 1330 Virginia St., East, one of Charleston's outstanding surgeons, died last of a heart attack after a six-month illness.
A resident of Charleston for 31 years, he was on the staffs of several Charleston hospitals at the time of his death, and was nationally known for his surgical and research work, particularly in the field of goiter control.
He had not been active since a heart attack in July of this year, and had suffered recurrences of the ailment in recent months. He died at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy B. Sears, 104 Grosscup drive, South Hills, at about 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Marks Methodist church with Dr. Alfred E. Bennett, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial park. The body is at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home.
Dr. Buford was born in Huntsville, Ala. Sept. 6, 1894, the son of John William and Nannie Bush Buford.
Dr. Buford was married in New Market, Ala., Nov. 24, 1917 to Miss Jane V. Yarbrough, who survives. Also surviving in addition to Mrs. Buford and the daughter Mrs. Sears, is another daughter, Mrs. T. O. Wash, Jr., of Kayford; a brother, Leo of Birmingham; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph Berry of Birmingham, Mrs. Ernest Blackwell of Decatur, Ala.; Mrs. Golden Reynolds of Toney, Ala.; Mrs. Mamie Broad and Miss Elizabeth Buford, both of Brownsboro, Ala. and one granddaughter, Karen Jane Wash of Kayford.
